- What You’ll Learn – The Instructor-Led Basic Pistol Course prerequisite is an objective based course that ranges between 4 to 8 hours long. The actual instructor course is at least 16-hours long and includes classroom and range time on how to present and teach shooting revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. Instructor candidates will learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; how to present and teach pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest position, and two handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development.
- What You’ll Receive – NRA Instructor-Led Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Packet, NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Guide, NRA Basic Instructor Guide, NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Blended Instructor Guide, NRA Instructor-Led Basic Pistol Course Instructor Guide, two written instructor examinations, a live fire examination, and, upon passing, a course completion certificate.
- State of Florida Requirement for Teaching Concealed Weapons Permit Classes – The State of Florida recognizes NRA instructors as being able to conduct the training requirement for Concealed Carry Permit classes.
- Prerequisites – Instructor candidates must be US citizens or legal permanent residents, have passed the NRA Instructor-Led Basics of Pistol Shooting Course, and meet a firearms qualification in front of the instructor. Candidates must be at least 13 years old. Candidates between ages 13 and 17 can pass and become Apprentice Instructors. Candidates between ages 18 to 20 can pass and become Assistant Instructors. Candidates ages 21 and over can pass and become full certified instructors. Minors under 18 years old that take the course need to sign up with their guardian (who must register and attend as well). There is also a qualification requirement, which we will do on the final day of the course at the range. You’ll have three attempts for the shooting qualification and should you fail, you can try again, free of charge (except for range fees), the following month.
