NRA Pistol Instructor Course Pre-Requisites

  • What You'll Learn - This course is at least 16-hours long and includes classroom and range time learning how to present and teach shooting revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. Instructor candidates will learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; how to present and teach pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest position, and two handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development.
  • What You'll Receive - Students will receive the NRA Basic Instructor Guide, NRA Pistol Phase II Instructor Guide, take two written instructor examinations, take a live fire examination, and, upon passing, a course completion certificate.
  • State of Florida Requirement for Teaching Concealed Weapons Permit Classes - The State of Florida recognizes NRA instructors as being able to conduct the training requirement for Concealed Carry Permit classes.
  • Pre-requisites - Instructor candidates must be US citizens or legal permanent residents, have passed the NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Online Class (Phase I), and meet a firearms qualification in front of the instructor. For the online class, you need to pass with at least a 90% (you will be given up to 5 attempts to pass the exam). The cost of the online class is $60 and paid directly to the NRA (it's not included in our fee). Upon finishing the online class, you will be directed to take the hands on Phase II portion - you do NOT need the Phase II for the instructor course. Only passing the Online Class is necessary. There is also a qualification requirement, which we will do on the second day of the course at the range. You will have two attempts for the shooting qualification and should you fail, you can try again, free of charge, the following month.   • Reserve Your Spot Before Taking the Online Class - It takes only eight hours to complete the online class. The spots will fill up, so if you plan on taking the class, it's best to register now.
